SAN DIEGO— On July 2, Alan Blankstein, president of the HOPE Foundation and award winning author of Failure Is Not an Option, will be the featured speaker following Education Secretary Duncan at the National Education Association’s (NEA) 2009 Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly in San Diego, Calif.
HOPE—Harnessing Optimism and Potential through Education—has documented success in partnering with school districts to:
· Close achievement gaps within and between schools
· Increase leadership capacity and responsibility at all levels
· Align and focus districts’ efforts toward improved teaching and learning
· Actually implement best educational practices system-wide
· Motivate and engage staff and students.

I had the opportunity to see Alan when I was a 2nd year Assistant Principal. His passion, commitment and drive still motives me 4 years later.
